Mafia II - First Impressions

The Mafia II Playable Demo was released a few weeks ago in order to introduce players to the all new Mafia universe. First of all, this game is nothing like Mafia I, the graphics and overall feel of the game has been improved dramatically (including gameplay, functionality, etc.) One key element is that you no longer have to pick the lock on car doors to get inside them, which was akward when the car was occupied in Mafia I. The driving in this demo may take a little while to get used to due to the fact that it accurately depicts the cars of the era which were extremely heavy making them handle differently than more modern cars. In addition to the excellent driving, the story telling (including voiceovers) are very well done, mixing action with that old mafia feel that we get from movies. Finally, the gunplay is functional, quick, and highly improved from Mafia I. There are a wide variety of weapons that you can purchase and you can now "hug" on cover (like in GTA). Overall, Mafia II seems to be a great game that all gamers should check out, it releases August 24.
